Nirmal Purja, or 'Nims', spent 16 years in the British Army firstly as a Queen's Gurkha Engineer followed by 10 years with UK Special Forces. More recently he has become renowned for his three times Guiness world record mountaineering achievements.
In March 2019 Nims will be taking on ‘Project Possible‘ - 7 new speed world records challenges, the most notable to climb all 14 x 8000m peaks in 7 months and beat the existing record of 7 years, 11 months and 14 days.
Nims will be raising funds for the the UK military to raise awareness of mental health and for Nepalese children's charities and orphanages.
To achieve his record-breaking attempt Nims is seeking financial support and sponsorship to raise a minimum of £750k to fund the 14/7 Expedition.
70 Gurkha Fd Sqn QGE will provide the Queen's Guard and Windsor Guard from 18 February to 12 April 2019. Guards will be provided at Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace, The Tower of London and Windsor Castle (details can be found here). It is the first time The Queen's Gurkha Engineers have carried out public duties since the Gurkha 200 celebrations in 2015, when the Regiment fulfilled part of the Brigade of Gurkhas public duties contingent.
