The Magazine Editor has asked for articles and family news for this year's edition.

Happy New Year.  I am writing to you once again at this time of year to ask for your support in providing articles for inclusion in this year’s QGE magazine.I hope you all enjoyed the 2016 edition and I feel pretty confident that in a number of cases it sparked the comment or thought “it’s about time I sent something” or, “why don’t I put something down on this” or, at the very least “it’s about time to provide a short family update”.   So, please if this does apply to you can I urge you to put pen to paper and send something to me; long, short, humorous or academic I will take it all!

The other more serious note is to provide obituaries or capture memories of those who have passed away this year and if you are able to help with this I would be most grateful.

still wish to push the inclusion of more Family News as it is in my mind, an essential element of the journal and a way for people to stay in touch. This year I would like to target those who served during the years listed below; although I will publish news from anyone who wishes to send something in

1961-63,  1971-73, 1981-83, 1991-93, 2001-03,  2011-13.

Finally as ever, if you have moved over the last 12 months or did not receive your 2016 edition please can you ensure the Association Secretary has your new address as I use his list for distribution.

To ensure I get the magazine to you by the summer I need to ask for contributions by 10 Apr 17.  They can either be emailed or sent to the address in the header. I am also happy to scan in documents / photos and return them to the owner.  I wish you all the best for the year ahead and look forward to hearing from you and reading your articles and family news.  Please email me on This email address is being protected from spambots.  "On posting to the Gurkha Engineers in Kluang in 1963, Captain Tomlinson was presented with a Wilkinson sword by his parents - as required then by the Gurkha Engineers. On one side of the blade was etched in the RE custom, and on the other side with the Gurkha Engineers badge, where by the sword was unique. On leaving the army in 1992 Tomlinson presented the sword and all its accoutrements to the RE Museum for safe keeping. It can no longer be found. Anyone knowing of its whereabouts should kindly arrange its return to the Museum. It may then be used on temporary loan to any QGE Queen's Gurkha Orderly Officer for use on duty during his Orderly Officer tour."

Donations to the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT), Earthquake Response Fund can be made by clicking here.

The Queen's Gurkha Engineer Association will not be establishing a special fund to receive donations.  This has been agreed with the Gurkha Brigade Association as both organisations recognise the expetise and network which the GWT is able to leverage to support the people of Nepal at this time of crisis.  The GWT funds the Gurkha Welfare Scheme in Nepal which in turns maintains a network of Area Welfare Centres throughout the mid-hills of the country.  This includes a Centre in the hill town of Gorkha, one of the areas most severely affected by the earthquake.  Despite sustaining significant structural damage, the Centre welfare and medical staff immediately began responding to the needs of the local community; the centres in Lamjung, Kaski and across Nepal have also responded in the same manner to the needs of their local communities.  Links to the Welfare Centres Facebook pages are below:
